Prospector, captain, mayor, trader, settler, craftsman, or builder? These are the seven roles available throughout the course of this excellent game, and you'll probably end up as all of them before the night is through. But knowing when and where to assume the responsibilities of these different roles is at the heart of Puerto Rico. The Settler helps with new plantations, but you'll need the help of the Craftsman to produce goods. Sell to the Trader, or use the Captain to ship goods further afield. Each role has unique special privileges, so taking charge at the right time is critical. Unfortunately, your opponents have their eyes on exactly the same special privileges, and you could find yourself frozen out at a key moment, leaving your goods on the docks, your plantations empty, and your buildings just blueprints. An economic tour de force, this is quality strategy gaming at its best.
