Scars of Mirrodin begins another Magic cycle, and what a way to begin. Since we're back on the metallic plane of Mirrodin, artifacts once again are squarely front and center, with the Metalcraft mechanic rewarding you for playing with all things metal. The big news is the arrival of Infect, a mechanic that turns Limited play completely on its head, allowing players to win by poisoning their opponents with 10 poison counters, generated from a slew of new Infect creatures. They're mostly small, but when you only need ten counters to get through, small can often be beautiful. For the tricksy player there's also Prolfierate, adding counters where they're needed most. It plays well, and there are some truly great ideas here that make you think outside the box, whether that's a booster, fat pack, or intro pack box!
The first time that I started playing Magic was the night this set was released and it was incredible. I will always remember my first draft with this set and how much fun my friends and I had playing it. This set really got me into the game and now I cant stop playing it.
Great start to a great block. A lot of interactions. A lot of great cards! Return of Poison :D
Starting playing Magic during this block was a blast. Learning about Mirrodin Pure vs. New Phyrexia later and having players take sides was an absolutely brilliant move by Wizards and really helped develop a sense of conflict on the formerly perfect world of Mirrodin.
