Last year, Duels of the Planeswalkers was a massive hit, showcasing Magic the Gathering in a way that was engaging, fresh, super-accessible, and fun. Twelve months on, and DOTP2012 is here to build on that phenomenal success, bringing with it a host of new features. Start out with the single-player campaign, working your way past a variety of increasingly tough Planeswalker opponents. Then there are the puzzle challenges, each of which neatly require a particular nuance of gameplay to defeat. There's a lot more deck customization this time around, too, with the ability to win cards from your defeated AI opponents and slowly but surely upgrade your decks for the tougher challenges ahead. Play in Archenemy with your friends against an AI Boss, or just marvel at how good Magic looks, and how well it plays, across all three digital platforms.
Hopefully not the start of a trend (oh who are we kidding), but a great console version of the game with clear improvements.
Very good for beginners to learn how to play, and also has a fun competitive and cooperative aspect if you have people online or at your house to play with. Also nice for people not sure if they want to make the jump to invest heavily in the paper or Magic Online versions of the game.
It's basically a good cheap way to learn the rules and see if the trading card game is for you instead of buying a deck or two and feeling it isn't your thing.
